Aelbert Cuyp

Aelbert Jacobsz Cuyp fue uno de los paisajistas holandeses más destacados del siglo XVII. El más famoso de una familia de pintores, alumno de su padre Jacob Gerritsz. Cuyp (1594-1651/52), es conocido principalmente por sus vistas holandesas compuestas al amanecer o al atardecer, aunque como todos los pintores de la época, cultivó también otros géneros como el retrato, las escenas de interior o los bodegones.

La pintura del Siglo de Oro neerlandés o pintura barroca holandesa se desarrolló durante un período de la historia neerlandesa que abarca el siglo XVII, durante y después de la guerra de los Ochenta Años (1568-1648) por la independencia holandesa. Las Provincias Unidas eran la nación más próspera de Europa, liderando el comercio, la ciencia y el arte. El arte holandés tuvo que reinventarse por completo después del brusco corte con las tradiciones culturales católicas y de la antigua monarquía.
